Low-Dimensional Topology

A couple of people have asked for my thesis, so here it is. It is available in TeX, DVI, Postscript or PDF.

Note that, due to the way I chose to write the TeX, there are a number of oddities about the way the thesis appears.

• The contents pages (pp 1-4) appear at the end. The first page is numbered 5. The idea is that you pick up the last 4 pages from the printer and move them to the start. (This is because it is easier to produce the contents page after you know the page numbers).
• The index does not appear. It worked a long time ago on a computer that I believe now sits in a train museum in York, but no more. Sorry.
• I use mssymb, from the AMSTeX library. If you do not have such a thing, but you want to TeX the thesis, grab my mssymb.tex instead. It contains the bare minimum of definitions to get the thesis through TeX.
• The figures are represented merely by boxes of the right size. The actual figures are given below. I'm afraid you have to download the figures and print them out separately.

This is possibly the most boring collection of pictures on the web, but I'm sure someone will prove me wrong.
